sustainability of digital nomad lifestyle

hey friend,

I arrived in ecuador late sunday night. here for a couple days to go on a little moto trip. thru the andes and amazon basin.

rode out of Quito monday morning for the mountains. saw a man lying dead next to his  crushed motorbike as i left the city. similar to the 2 dead bodies i saw just outside of lima a month ago.

the roads & drivers in south america are wild. i feel a lot better here in the mountains on dirt trails with no traffic.

when I do trips like this, i usually get some messages about the sustainability of a “digital nomad” lifestyle. whether it’s possible to do this long term (4+ years)

and to be honest i probably don’t consider myself a digital nomad anymore. i would just say i live in a way that isn’t defined by a commitment to one particular place.

4-5 months in a city feels like a sweet spot. time to really settle in and get grounded, build relationships, find a good gym, favourite cafes and restaurantes.

at the moment, a 3 day trip somewhere new, once a month seems to be a good rhythm. enough to feel creatively inspired - short enough to not take away from what i’m creating.

this pace feels feels super sustainable. i don’t think i could go back to 30 days in a place consistently again- at least not for long. i also know once i get too familiar or comfortable, things can start to feel stale, autopilot comes on and it’s easy to just go through the motions.

all about the ☯️

talk soon friend
