a new standard
Hey friend,
We all have a standard at which we are willing to live.
The type of house we will live in, the amount of money we will make, the kind of experiences, the relationships in our lives, a standard of the body we have.
This standard is generally set by the environment we grew up in, or by a particular time in our life when we decided how we wanted to live.
This generally happens unconsciously. But everyday we set the standard of how we want to live.
There’s some people that have a standard of body, that when they over indulge in food, they correct automatically the next days.
There’s some people that have a standard of always having $500k on their everyday transaction account, and when it goes below that they fix it straight away.
But we all have our own standards of what we are willing to accept.
But we get to choose our standard.
And to raise your standard takes growth. Requires you to think greater about yourself, and what is possible for you.
The process of finding a long term apartment here in Buenos Aires has given me a great opportunity to choose the standard of the space that I live in.
Now, I can get a nice modern apartment for $1.5kusd a month, in a nice neighbourhood. And there would be nothing wrong with that.
Or I can choose a higher standard for myself and create a very special space.
I’ve been looking at the most beautiful old French apartments in the nicest street in the city, that are a much greater investment.
Yesterday I walked into a furniture and art store on that street, and after a nice long conversation with the man, he showed me a beautiful desk from a famous Argentinian artist that died last year.
One of the most beautiful oakwood desks I’ve ever seen. It was $5kusd. It was a very expansive conversation.
And I considered how by creating this new living & studio space for myself, I get the opportunity to choose the level at which I live. A level that is perhaps beyond what I have chosen or thought possible before.
I have stayed in beautiful, expensive homes around the world, but never had a long term lease on one.
This would be a new level that will require my self image to grow. That will require me to raise my standards.
I get to choose the standard at which I live. We all do.
We can retreat to what is familiar, comfortable, known, or we can choose something greater.
