Hey friend,

You may have seen in the news this week that Nvidia overtook Google’s parent group, Alphabet, to become the third most valuable company in the US. Its market capitalisation hit $2tn (£1.58tn), surpassed only by Microsoft and Apple.

Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, came out an spoke today about the future of AI.

He said something shocking…

“Almost everybody would tell you that it is vital that everyone child should learn computer science and should learn how to code. But the truth is actually the opposite“

You goes on to speak about the rise of AI and how it will make much of coding redundant and that real skill we need to be drawing out of young people is problem solving.

You can watch the clip on twitter here.

If you suss the comments you’ll see Elon musks reply… “Yeah“

So if the CEO of the 3rd biggest company in the world says we should be focused on problem solving in education - its probably worth paying attention. It also helps that he is on the forefront of the most advanced AI developments.

And i tend to agree, problem solving is the key skill.

Problem solving is creativity at its core.

And here’s the thing that no-one will tell you…

Creativity is not an intellectual process.

Creativity is not of the mind.

The intellect should be empowered. It should be sharp. We should train it.

But the intellect does not create.

creativity is of the soul

only the soul can create

AI can automate, summarise, scan large amounts of data to recognise patterns

but it cannot “explain the seen in terms of the unseen“

but what is the soul?

how do we access it?

How do we use it?

that is what we are ultimately here to explore

and perhaps that should be the real subject of education

this is the frontier
