easy language learning

Hey friend,

I’ve been on the language learning journey this year.

For me, its an important part of travelling and having a deeper experience of the places I live.

One of the most interesting things I learnt this year on my journey was this…

When learning your first language (other than your mother tongue), it’s more about learning about the process of language learning itself, rather than learning your target language.

See, as I went about trying to learn spanish, like most, I started with duolingo and quickly realised its limitations.

Then I did some online lessons sporadically while living in mexico, and made some progress.

Then I did 30 days at an in-person school in Medellin, Colombia. Where I learnt a fair bit.

And then I eventually started spending a lot of time learning from polyglots and professional language learners about the process of language acquisition.

And that’s when I was truly able to grow in the language.

It’s been a similar journey with all my learning really. In all areas of life.

From business, to health, to whatever area I’ve sought growth.

See, if we desire to grow, typically we spend a lot of time consuming information, podcasts, books, courses, mentors.

Following the advice, recommendations and ideas of others.

But a lot of it is in vain because how can we go about improving our lives or growing…

If we don’t understand the nature of life itself.

If we don’t first come to understand how life itself (aka growth) actually works.

If I wish to continue to expand, I can run around busy, consuming information, pushing, striving, fighting…

Or- I can prioritise coming to an understanding of the process of life.

And then growth, will not only become simple & easy.

But it will become autonomic.
